1) I was feeling guilty at having copied Bob from Brockley's template and, since we tend to hang around with the same (virtual) people, I thought I'd save any confusion.
2) H., my OH, doesn't look in on this blog very often, but when she does, she invariably comments detrimentally on the silhouetted birds in the top right-hand corner of my former template: apparently they look 'very Hallmark'.
3) I really don't like any of the new Blogger designs and don't understand why they had to get rid of the old functional-but-clean look, but I find this one offends my senses least (for now). OK?

Don't see why you should feel guilty; but ... see 2nd comment on previous post. Am fan of yellow ochre, burnt umber and all gradations thereof; but couldn't half do with the occasional pic (boring blogfollower, the curse of the blogosphere, speaks! Drops voice to whisper, and mutters the fateful words "You could always try migrating to WordPress"!).
If you're feeling nostalgic, the old Blogger templates are still available here.
I haven't messed with the "Hallmark" template myself, but I guess it would be possible to change or get rid of the pigeons by taking a screwdriver to the HTML.
Thanks Kellie, but my eyes are adjusting to the new 'design' now. Nostalgic for something developed by Blogger? That'll be the day (hope they're not listening in).
I feel sorry for Bob, now. One minute he's a trendsetter with people copying his design choice, next he's uncool with his outdated Hallmark pigeons. Oh fickle fashion.
Didn't think of that. Keep quiet, he might not notice.
Migrate to Wordpress, and you get scores and scores...
It is easy...even radical!
Seriously consider Wordpress, I am.
Migrating takes about 10-25 mins, basically:
1) you create a wordpress domain (same name as your existing blogger one)
2) you fill in a few basics
3) you then instruct Wordpress to *import* your blogger stuff
4) It sucks it over...making a complete copy of your old blog
5) You go to the dashboard and write your first WP blog.
Simple.
Thanks. Seriously considering following your advice. Or I might forget all about it. Until the next time I try to import a photo into my blog and Blogger insists on sticking it at the top of the post, whatever I tell it to do. Or won't let me go back to justifying lines on the left after I've inserted a quote...etc etc
Mod, I'm considering it to. I guess I don't like the thought of everyone linking to me taking ages to update their links, and I realise then that they never visit... How long after migration did it take you to reach your previous level of visits?
Kellie, thanks for feeling sorry for me.
Martin, I didn't think you'd copied the template. It was striking that we picked the identical template within days or possibly hours of each other. As well as choosing the same holiday reading. (Just finished Robert Wilson's Hidden Assassins - pretty good. And Soldiers of Salamis by Javier Cercas - absolutely fantastic.)
My OH never ever looks at the blog, so I get no feedback there. Someone asked me if I was trying to express my feminine side with the template though...
Bob -
Good to hear from you.
A confession: I only picked the same template as you after seeing that you'd done it - so it was a shameless bit of copying. But that's all in the past now...
Absolutely agree about Soldiers of Salamis. One of the best things I've read about the civil war. Spoilt me for reading C J Sansom's Winter in Madrid, which is not in the same class.
